Having recently watched a complete episode of Banana Splits I can imagine you’ve been waiting with bated breath for the next thrilling episode of XaW Files: Beyond Humanity. This episode starts an epic Transylvania vampire tale that continues throughout the chapter, and at the start of the second third of the book, really begins the travel quest storyline that provides the plot. I let Transylvania dominate this chapter for comedic effect, and because it was what the story dictated; and didn’t bother working out the precise average in the opening paragraph for comedic effect.
Along with television series such as Banana Splits and Last of the Mohicans, I grew up on movies, including Westerns, war movies, thrillers, comedy and horror films. Vampire films were probably my favourite out of the big horror genres, you might be surprised to know, over werewolves, zombies and Frankenstein.
XaW Files: Beyond Humanity, Chapter 4 Episode 7
Budapest and Prague are both beautiful cities, but I had a yearning for nature in the morning. As we’d already spent too much time in Hungary, for the average 5 countries in 24 episodes 4.something, I thought it was time to skedaddle east to Romania.
Roll Call for Romania
Wakey, wakey, rise and shine
time to head on down the line
better listen to L.A. Guns
cos it’s Transylvania time.
Looking at Google Maps to decide where to go next my attention was drawn to the Apuseni National Park in Romania, as it looked particularly greenYgrey.
Transylvania Vampire LAX to New York
I found a website about Apuseni at about the same time I listened to my second L.A. Guns album of the morning. The article told me Apuseni is in Transylvania, while the album was Hollywood Vampires.
Neither preceded nor prompted the other; they met in perfectly awry synchronicity, greenYgrey style, complemented through a Y link. That’s the Transylvanian Y; which is six letters into the Transylvanian name just like the Y in greenYgrey, although there are more letters after Transy than greenY, with Transy just this moment evoking thoughts of dance music and The Rocky Horror Picture Show.
As I fell into a Transylvanian trance I thought I saw we were closer to our Wolfhol than ever before on this ramble; with our ol’ head honcho of creation teamed up with legendary musician Sylvain Sylvain.
Y is also prominent in the city that connects Warhol and Sylvain: none other than NY. Or as the song goes: New York, New York, so good they named it twice, which provides two Ys. Returning this section to its Hollywood Vampires beginning, like a coiling snake, Sylvain moved to L.A. in the early 1990s.
Carpathian Mountains Sunset
After rambling writing for so long I forgot to give the others another roll call, meaning they slept in and we didn’t get rambling On The Road until late.
We did make it across the border into Romania and up into the Apuseni Mountains in time for the sunset though… making a special effort after reading that the Apusenis are a part of the Carpathian range, with Carpathian meaning ‘Mountains of the Sunset’.
I was glad to read that, as there was something about Carpathian that sounded fishy to me!
L.A. Guns: Hollywood Vampires.
Sylvain Sylvain of the New York Dolls.
On The Road referencing Jack Kerouac.
Carp is a type of fish.
