This episode of XaW Files: Beyond Humanity works on multiple levels: my mind while writing, the greenYgrey world remembered by the greenYgrey protagonist, and Budapest via the www.
Writing Inspiration: Waiting for the Muse
It was written in January, 2015, when the sunrise was just past its latest time in the northern hemisphere. Winter, 2017 is approaching now, with the sun’s strength soon to wane, and its time in view to shorten, but its rising will be at its best time for 9am start workers.
It was a tough day’s writing. A Sunday I remember. I’d postponed my drinking day to the Sunday, and started drinking after finishing the bulk of the blog post, thinking I’d finished. I became engrossed in Pink Floyd Greatest Hits on YouTube, and then added the end part. There was jubilation later, as I watched highlights of the Sunday Premier League games, and they saved my Fantasy Football weekend.
Chapter 4 Episode 4
I had sat down to write, but didn’t feel in the right zone for rambling. Lunch and a snap nap later, and I think my mind is ready to enter the writing world.
If the morning writing world is one of ascent, a fresh mind rising up on the stimulation of a new day, signalled by coffee and sunrise, is the afternoon session one of descent: is my mind now waiting for the sun to set, for the twilight time at the other end of the day, the darkening sky, creating atmosphere, so my thoughts can find a way to this page.
I’m sorry if you think I’m not suffering enough. Not suffering enough when I write for you. Not working hard enough when I write for you.
It’s just not possible you see. At least not possible to find the right deep melancholy where you feel as if your mind is being spelt out on the screen right in front of you. It’s like a bird waiting to rise on a thermal; circling and circling until it feels the warm wind start lifting it.
To write at your peak means being in the mood, with the brain and surroundings in alignment. Like running and jumping at altitude, having got the training, nutrition and rest right. That’s the aim, and that’s how I feel. Like Bob Beamon at the 1968 Olympics, when he smashed the world long jump record by jumping high and long at altitude.
It was from a time before I can remember sports and remembering, but I remember hearing about it from an early age of when I can remember.
Alignment, Drawing a Line Under It
Maybe I was thinking about the above because Mary said she’d seen a nice Winter Solstice sunrise in the greenYgrey world before leaving, at about 08.10 on January 21st.
When’s the summer solstice you ask? Funnily enough, there’s no Summer Solstice in the greenYgrey world, so in that way, were (sic) one-dimensional.
We do see the beautiful colours of the sunset though, and with a little travelling, the ethereal late last light of the summer night is visible from the western edge of the greenYgrey world.
Everybody was just sitting around enjoying it, she said, not needing to move, and not wanting to either.
I wish I could have been there, and for the first time in a while felt homesick. Hopefully I’ll be back next year. Home by Christmas. Now, where have I heard that before?!
Budapest is a beautiful city, but you can see that from all the photographs there are on the www. What can I say that hasn’t already been said; especially after I’ve crossed the minimum episode line with some thoughts and writing I’m happy with, and the twilight time has passed.
I feel like I’ve dipped in, found gold in the greenYgrey, now I should get out again quickly, while you and I are still loving it, leaving you wanting and waiting for more.
I want to give you an encore, and think you deserve it, but it’s gone, the time has passed… then something unexpected happens… a new source of inspiration…
If everybody did their own thing
there would be little understanding
would that be so bad… or so good?
Tap runs through memories of guitarists leaving their guitars on stage with feedback… waiting patiently… there are all kinds of… Parallel Lines… Alignment…
Parallel Lines is a Blondie album.
