The next episode of our XaW Files X Files parody comedy is another one that I hope shows we can do serious drama too, as our dear Love the mixed-up Vole seems to be suffering from the after-effects of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster, but this is fantasy of course, and I don’t think there is any radiation dangers still in the area.
Hi, it’s G.G. Howling, fiction correspondent at the greenYgrey inspired by legendary Harry Potter wizard writer J.K. Rowling. Here’s the 60th episode:
Chapter 3 Episode 11
Every episode attempts epic, like a hitch-hiker looking forward to the longest ride or the last day; thinking the sixtieth episode of a marathon journey could be the best or most dramatic. That’s because we think some of you might have been waiting for this continuation of the story, as we waited for the next episodes of series we liked. That’s an inspiration to keep rambling. We also think some of you hoped this episode never materialised, or that it’s the last. That’s another reason to keep rambling…
Love is Blind
Lot on my mind
tell the truth
most of it’s not kind
only getting worse
trying to find
a way to offload
hate to unwind
but it’s Love
that becomes a bind
as nuclear fallout
makes it blind.
Love’s Sight Deteriorates Overnight
I awoke first and got a fire going. Jack woke up as the flames heated our bivouac, and we chatted over a few cups of coffee. Love stayed prostrate, and as lunchtime approached I thought I should check it was okay.
I went over to Love and shouted ‘Wakey Wakey’ to it. Love opened its eyes and asked if it was morning. I said it was, but only just, as it would be afternoon in less than twenty minutes.
Love looked worried, and asked if everything looked like it should. I said it would do once it arose and joined us.
Love got up gingerly, and started walking around, but seemed to be heading for the fire.
Fade Away and Radiate
I intercepted Love a few steps from the fire, and asked it if it was feeling okay.
Love said it felt okay, but couldn’t see anything. It added that it thought its sight had been getting fuzzier and fuzzier over the last few days, but didn’t think much about it until this morning, when it had faded completely.
As Love stood close to the fire telling me of its blindness it made me check out the rest of it, and I noticed it was glowing. Unfortunately, it didn’t look like a healthy colour, or even a fireside warmth, it looked like a radiation glow.
Love going blind story was inspired by Donald Pleasence‘s character, Flight Lt. Colin Blythe, “The Forger” in The Great Escape (1963). Blythe was loosely based on James Hill, who after the war directed and produced films, becoming best known for Born Free (1966), Worzel Gummidge (1979) and Black Beauty (1971). http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0384342/bio?ref_=nm_ov_bio_sm
